The Col de l’Iseran, at 2,764 meters, is the highest paved mountain pass in the Alps and one of the most legendary challenges in the French high mountains. It holds great significance in the world of cycling and has featured several times in the Tour de France. Its difficulty stems not only from the elevation gain and the length of the climb, but also from the thin air and often extreme weather conditions. Even in midsummer, cold and storms can dominate the pass — in 2019, the Tour de France was even halted here due to snow and landslides.
