Col du Tourmalet is a French mountain pass in the Pyrenees, situated in the southwest of the département Hautes-Pyrénées. It is famous for its significant role in the history of cycling, notably the Tour de France. No other mountain pass has been featured more often in Tour history, the first time being as early as 1910 when the Tour visited the Pyrenees for the first time. Octave Lapize, later winner of the Tour, was the first on top of the Tourmalet and according to legend screamed “Vous êtes des assassins!” (You are murderers!) at the Tour organizers. The Vuelta a España also led to the Tourmalet multiple times.
