Situated in the center of Vanoise National Park the Grande Casse plays a crucial part in the protection of the Alpine fauna. Founded in 1963 the national park was supposed to protect endagered species as the Alpine ibex, the number of which climbed back up to 2,500. Around the national park there are some of the largest ski resorts in the Alps as “Les 3 Vallées” or “Tignes/Val-d'Isère”.
