Manaslu – the “spirit mountain” is also known by the name “Kutang”. It is the eighth-highest mountain on Earth. The summit has three steep flanks, while the eastern slope is more gentle and leads to the secondary peak at 7,992 meters. Even though it is lower the eastern summit was first climbed only in 1986, about 30 years after the first ascent of the main summit. An alternative for climbs to altitudes of 8,000 meters and more is the Manaslu Circuit. The trekking route leads around Manaslu and reaches a maximum height of about 5,100 meters.
