Mount Edgecumbe is a dormant volcano and the highest mountain on Kruzof Island in the southeast of Alaska. In the native Tlingit language the mountain is named L'ux which can be translated as flashing or blinking. Mount Edecumbe got international attention in course of one of the largest April Fool jokes in history when on 1st April 1974 Oliver Bickar alarmed the population in the surrounding settlements who were in fear of an eruption when Bickar had actually only set dozens of tires on fire.
