Mount Sidley is the highest of five dormant volcanoes in the Executive Committee Range in Antarctica. As the highest volcano on the entire continent, it is also the lowest of the Seven Volcanic Summits. The massive shield volcano was first discovered in 1934 during an overflight. More than 50 years would pass before the first successful ascent in 1990. Mount Sidley's location is extremely inaccessible, even by Antarctic standards. Summit attempts are rare and even the exact height of the mountain has not yet been determined. According to some sources the summit has a height of only 4181 meters.
