The major landmark of Cape Town towers in the west over the second biggest city of South Africa. The three kilometer long summit plateau is characteristic as are the neighboring peaks Lion's Head in the south and Devil's Peak in the north. Since 1929 a funicular airway leads onto Table Mountain which can also be accessed via a number of different hiking trails which both contribute to making the mountain one of the most popular tourist destination in all of South Africa.
