The three kilometer long summit plateau is characteristic as are the neighboring peaks Lion's Head in the south and Devil's Peak in the north. Since 1929 a funicular airway leads onto Table Mountain which can also be accessed via a number of different hiking trails which both contribute to making the mountain one of the most popular tourist destination in all of South Africa.
