Traunstein, often called the guardian of the Salzkammergut, has a characteristic outline - on some days it can still be seen from a distance of 150km. With 1,691m Traunstein is no especially high Alpine mountain - but its beauty attracted visitors at all times. The Austrian emperor Franz Joseph came to the area regularly to hunt chamois.
