All mountains in the Alps with a prominence of at least 500 metres are included, totalling 919 mountains and three height twins, including Montblanc, Matterhorn, Grossglockner, and Zugspitze. As the prominence describes a mountain in the context of its environment, these mountains are equally distributed throughout the Alps.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"text-align: left;\"\u003eOur impression of the mountains is determined by not only the geography but also the shape, the rock, and the available view of the mountain. Therefore, we included 79 special mountains of the Alps, which, despite lower prominence, shape our impression of the Alps and the mountains in it. A few examples are Eiger, Grosser Mythen, and High Weisse. The selection of these mountains is partly subjective, but we have made sure that the whole Alpine region is equally represented.
