Der Monte Pelmo ist ein gewaltiger, freistehender Felsendom und gehört zu den höchsten Gipfeln der Dolomiten. Er ragt eindrucksvoll aus den umliegenden Tälern heraus. Von Nordwesten entsteht der Eindruck, einen gigantischen Sessel zu betrachten: der Gipfelfelsblock in der Mitte und der Monte Pelmetto sowie der Nordwestgrat als Armlehnen. Deshalb wird der Pelmo auch „Gottes Sessel“ genannt.
