Our maps are printed on stable and durable paper so that you can enjoy your Marmota Map for a long time. Yet, depending on where and how the map is hung or stored, it may start to ripple at some point. Small creases and uneven spots can also occur when the map is moved and hung on another wall.
So that your map can keep being presented in all its glory, here are three methods to make it smooth and flat again.
The most common, simple and reliable approach is weighing down the poster with books. Practically any heavy item with a smooth surface will do – if you don't have a large atlas at hand, wooden panels work as well, for instance. Regardless of what you use: the longer the poster is pressed, the better the result.
If the map has been stored rolled up for too long, wave-like ripples can appear when unrolling it. These little bumps can normally be ironed out – quite literally. A steam iron works best: use it on the lowest heat setting and without steam at first. Place the map on its back and protect it with a simple dish cloth. Then move the iron carefully and in circles over the cloth.
If ironing without steam does not bring the result you hoped for, try ironing with steam as the next step. The setup stays the same: lowest heat setting, the map lies on its back, protected with a simple dish cloth. Move the iron carefully and in circles over the cloth.
Once the map is smooth again, our page Hanging the map helps you find the right way to keep it that way.
