Popocatépetl

Popocatépetl

Popocatépetl is the second-highest mountain in Mexico and one of the country's most active volcanoes. The partly glaciated stratovolcano rises between Mexico City and Puebla and shapes the skyline of both cities. According to an Aztec legend, the volcano is the tomb of the former tribal leader Popocatépetl transformed into a mountain, while the neighbouring sister volcano Iztaccíhuatl is the tomb of his beloved.
