England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, is located in the Lake District in the north-west of the country, which was formed by glaciers and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It should not be confused with the slightly lower neighboring mountain Sca Fell. In 1919, Scafell Pike was donated to the National Trust by Lord Leconfield as a war memorial. Like the highest summits of Scotland and Wales, Scafell Pike is part of the “National Three Peaks Challenge”, in which all three mountains must be climbed within 24 hours.
