Jungfrau

Jungfrau is the highest summit of the mountain triplet it forms together with Eiger and Mönch. Since the Jungfrau Railway was put into service in 1912, reaching the Jungfraujoch station at a height of over 3400 meters, the mountain has become one of the most easily accessible four-thousanders in the Alps. Its name possibly originates from the Wengernalp on the northern slope which was called Jungfrauenberg by the nuns of the former Interlaken Monastery.
