Monte Pelmo is a powerful, free-standing rock dome and is one of the highest peaks in the Dolomites. It towers impressively over the surrounding valleys. From the north-west you get the impression of looking at a gigantic armchair: the summit rock in the middle and Monte Pelmetto and the Nordwestgrat as armrests. That is why Monte Pelmo is also called "God's chair".
