Weißkugel is the third highest mountain in Austria. Its location directly on the Alpine Main Ridge makes it also the highest peak on the border between Italy and Austria. On Weißkugel four summit crests meet and glaciers lie between them. One of them, Hintereisferner glacier is being observed and investigated scientifically for more than a 100 years – one of the longest ongoing time series in glacier research.
