Reisalpe is the highest mountain of Gutenstein Alps. the mountain is almost completely covered in forest, meadows and mountain pasture with livestock, except for its rocky south western and northern side. in the south west the fragile Hirschenmauer slopes down from the alpine pastures and forms a huge pile of rubble. there is danger of rockfalls. it could be the origin of the mountain‘s name: the brittle rocks flake (german: „rieseln“) off the alps into the valley.
