Puncak Jaya, also known by its Dutch name Carstensz Pyramid, is the highest mountain of Indonesia and the island of New Guinea, and thus the highest peak on earth which is not located on the major continental landmasses. Puncak Jaya is commonly counted as one of the Seven Summits, when regarded as the high point of Australia-Oceania. Even though Puncak Jaya is the lowest of the Seven Summits and temperatures at the mountain are relatively moderate the climb to the top is technically more demanding than at most of the other continental high points.
