The Mittagskogel (Slovenian: Kepa) is one of the highest mountains in the western Karawanken. The rock pyramid on the border between Carinthia and Slovenia belongs to the main ridge of the western Karawank mountains. The flattened peak gives Mittagskogel a volcano-like appearance. The German Mittagskogel (Midday Peak) denotes the position of the sun above the summit at noon. This name is often used in the alps in different variations, for example: Mittagsgipfel, Mittagsberg or Zwölferberg.
