The Fichtelberg is the highest mountain of the German state of Saxony and the high point on the German side of the Ore Mountains. The highest mountain of the entire range, the Klínovec in Czech, is close-by in a distance of only three and a half kilometers. The largest ski resorts of the Ore Mountains are situated around both mountains. In combination they form the most important center for winter sports in the area.
